Sewing Shirt and Apron for the Bunad

Hardanger Folk Museum and Folgefonn Folk Art and Craft Association are organizing several weekend courses focusing on the techniques used in making the Hardanger bunad. In this course, you will learn how to assemble a shirt and an apron. To benefit from the course, you need to bring pre-embroidered shirt panels and/or apron borders. This is not a course for embroidering the shirt and apron but for sewing the actual shirt and/or apron. You can choose to sew a men's shirt, a women's shirt, and/or an apron, depending on your preference and time. The course spans two weekends, allowing you to work at home during the week in between. If you can only attend one weekend, assembling an apron is a good option. Please bring your own sewing machine.

Dates and Registration

The museum and the handicrafts association are offering one shirt and apron course in 2025, with Marit Bleie Mannsåker and Agnete Sivertsen as instructors.

The course will take place over two weekends: Saturday, March 29, and Sunday, March 30, as well as Saturday, April 5, and Sunday, April 6, at Hardanger Folk Museum, from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM each day.

Register by emailing post@hvm.museum.no or calling +47 474 79 884 by March 10, 2025.

Alternative dates can also be arranged, as we offer group courses throughout the year.

If fewer than four participants register, the course may be canceled.

Prices
NOK 5,400 per course for members of Folgefonn/Norwegian Folk Art and Craft Association.
NOK 5,900 per course for non-members.

The course includes coffee, cakes, and a hot lunch every day. Course materials are not included and depend on what you choose to sew.

Note: The course spans two weekends. If you can only attend one weekend, this is also possible. Contact us to make arrangements.
