Norway's most known composer Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) spent many summers in Hardanger, and the region provided him with artistic inspiration. In Lofthus he had a small cabin built, in which he used to write music. Today the cabin is in the garden of Hotel Ullensvang, and can be accessed free of charge after making an appointment with the front desk of the hotel.
