For those heading to Hjeltnes and hiking trail Åsen, you ought to make a rest stop at local drop-in cabin Solhaug. The recently built cabin is open to all visitors with a spectacular view over Ulvik.
The drop-in cabin project started in Sogn og Fjordane county in 2016 with a goal of increasing rates of physical activity in the region. The cabins were deemed great hiking destinations and meeting spots, and the idea further spread to Hordaland county’s municipalties during the fall of 2019. In December 2021, Ulvik’s own drop-in cabin was officially opened. The 1,3-kilometer-long trek to the cabin is signposted from Holmen beach with a duration of about 30 minutes. The first part of the trail is asphalted, and the remainder follows a tractor-track.
