FAQ
Hardanger Fjordcruise is a private, small-group boat tour on the Hardangerfjord, led by local captain Kurt from his base at Sollesnes in Jondal. Rather than joining a scheduled departure, you charter the whole boat for your own group and plan the route together with the captain. The two boats, M/S Pilagutt and M/S Pilajente, each carry up to 11 guests and have seating and dining space both indoors and outdoors. Trips run year-round and range from a calm cruise on the open fjord to a waterfall safari into Fyksesund, the narrow fjord arm that ends at the roadless hamlet of Botnen. You arrange your trip directly with captain Kurt.
It is always private. Hardanger Fjordcruise has no scheduled departures with individual tickets — when you book, the whole boat is yours, whether you are two people or eleven. This makes it well suited to families, groups of friends or colleagues who want the fjord to themselves.
Hardanger Fjordcruise is a calm, private tour for up to 11 people, not a fixed-route ferry or a high-speed RIB. Unlike the large scheduled boats (such as Norled's Norheimsund–Eidfjord route), you decide where to go and how long to stay; unlike a RIB safari, the pace stays relaxed and sheltered, with seating and dining on board. The boats have high seating, so everyone gets a clear view in any weather.
You plan the route with captain Kurt. A popular choice is the waterfall safari into Fyksesund, the roughly 10 km long fjord arm hemmed in by steep mountainsides and waterfalls, ending at the roadless hamlet of Botnen. A common round trip runs Jondal–Kvamsøy–Botnen–Herand–Jondal, and it can be adjusted to your group's wishes.
Hardanger Fjordcruise is based at Sollesnes in Jondal, but captain Kurt picks you up at an agreed location anywhere in the Hardanger region. You settle the pickup point when you get in touch to book, so you can start near where you are staying.
Yes. Because every trip is a private charter with no fixed timetable, you arrange the date, route and pickup point directly with captain Kurt rather than buying a ticket online. It is wise to get in touch well ahead for summer and for the fruit-blossom season in May, when demand is highest.
Yes. Some guests charter the boat purely for fishing, and you can add a swim stop in sheltered bays along the Hardangerfjord when the weather is fine. Just tell captain Kurt what you would like — it is one of many fjord experiences in Hardanger you can build into the trip.
Yes. The calm, sheltered boats and the freely chosen route make Hardanger Fjordcruise well suited to children and older guests alike, unlike a fast RIB safari. M/S Pilagutt and M/S Pilajente have high seating with good views and dining space both inside and outside, so you stay comfortable in any weather.
