Mt. Samlen - summit hike
Samlen offers some of the finest views in Hardanger. From the 686-metre summit, you can enjoy panoramic views both along and out across the fjord – a perfect challenge for an evening hike. Please note: The trail starts from Mælsvegen.
About
The view from the summit of Samlen is spectacular. At a normal pace, the ascent takes approximately 1.5 hours, with the descent taking slightly less time. At 686 metres above sea level, the summit offers panoramic views both along and out of the Hardangerfjord, as well as towards the Granvinfjord, Norheimsund, Øystese and Samladalen.
This is a perfect challenge for an evening hike. The 6.7 km round-trip follows a marked trail from the parking area at Mælsvegen.
From the parking area, follow Mælsvegen for approximately 200 metres before joining the trail through the forest. The trail ascends steadily, with several beautiful viewpoints along the way, before reaching the Sherpa steps known as «Hardangertrappa», which wind their way up the steep mountainside. The trail continues upwards through Furuskora before turning left and becoming steeper in places.
