About

Maren Sofie Strømme has been painting for more than 35 years, and has had numerous exhibitions in Norway. Recently she participated in the art festival Ljosanótt på Iceland, until September 2024, and was a guest artist at Art67 Galleri Reykjavik 2023.

As a medium, she uses acrylic, acrylic paint and acrylic ink, but different types of texture. She uses various techniques to achieve contrast between color, texture and patina. Depth created with transparent shades layer by layer. The artist is concerned with capturing the mood of the seasons with interesting contrasts and play of colors, light and atmosphere. Artists have always been fascinated by how the seasons and weather leave their mark on nature and old historical buildings, and try to transfer this to the canvas to bring out a washed out and aged impression, and give the painting an interesting expression for viewers.

She gathers natural experiences from the rugged, raw coastal landscape of Norway's Vestlandskysten, and from Iceland, where her grandmother was from, with all its unique contrasts and natural forces, as well as the urban cityscape, walls, plasterwork, old wallpaper that carries with it an exciting history from a bygone era.

BEE Hardanger was founded on March 19, 2021, by Britt-Helen Stuholm, Eli T Utne Lillevik, and Eldbjørg Stenberg. The name "BEE" comes from the initials of the founders. The association is a meeting place for people with diverse interests in art and culture, and it offers a low-threshold program including regular gatherings, various courses in art and culture, excursions for members, and exhibitions in the local area.

Their fields of work include mixed media such as acrylic, watercolor, oil painting, textile art, photography, glass painting, drawing, digital art, and woodwork.

Today, the collective has 16 active members, mainly based in Kinsarvik and extending inward toward Odda, but they welcome new members from all areas. BEE Hardanger uses the Fjordahallen in Kinsarvik as a regular meeting place and course venue. Previously, BEE has held exhibitions at Galleri Bergslien and the municipal council chamber in Eidfjord, featuring over 230 artworks of varying scale, as well as at the Christmas market at Krossvoll, Galleri Grimo, the Morelle Festival, in the town of Odda, and several exhibitions at the library in Kinsarvik. They have also organized painting courses with Enver Gashi and Igor Meyer, and drawing courses with Hilde Rønning Karlsen.
