Altitude difference: 200 - 1,248 m.
HIKING DESCRIPTION:
From the car park, a light trail (forest road) follows 1.2 km inland on the right side of Bakkastølsvatnet and then along the river to the inner bridge. Be careful to follow the line of lights at crossing forest roads. Follow the markings upwards under the power line and keep left up the hill. From the end of the tractor road, follow the path along the ridge to the barn at Dyrrindo. This cabin has now been restored and is open to everyone, and is a suitable place for a rest before the next stage.
Turn right up behind the cabin and follow the T markings. At the road section, approx. 800 m above sea level, you can choose the direct route to the top (occasionally marked with small cairns) or the T-marked route around Øktaredalsnuten with a view down into Matersfjorden.
From the top, there is a magnificent view of the Etne and Kvinnherad mountains, Folgefonna, the Hardangerfjord, and the mountain area towards Bergen. The steep mountain sides down towards Uskedalen are an attractive climbing area with routes of all levels of difficulty, in solid granite.
Year-round trip:
During spring time it is popular to go skiing from Tveitedalen to Ulvanosa.
GOOD ADVICE
A lot of walking on rough stones requires good shoes.
When snowdrifts occur on Høgetinden, one should be careful when moving out towards the edge, the snowdrifts are often overhanging and can collapse.
Alternative returns: From Høgetinden you can follow the marked route down to Uskedalen directly, or over Geitadalstinden.
Access with your car
From the national road, take the exit to Holmedal at the crossroads before driving down to the ferry quay at Utåker. At a new road junction after 3 km, the road goes 2.5 km north to the ski center.
