About

Låtefossen is the main attraction in the Odda Valley, often called the “Valley of Waterfalls.” The spectacular twin waterfall has a drop of about 165 meters and is located right next to National Road 13, just a short drive from Odda. The water from the falls gathers and flows beneath the characteristic stone arch bridge – one of the most photographed scenes in Hardanger.

The waterfall has been a popular destination since the 19th century. The old bridge was completed in 1859, and tourists were transported here by horse and carriage from Odda to experience the waterfall and the views of the valley.

Låtefossen is very easily accessible, and many people stop here while travelling through the Odda Valley. At the same time, its central location along Rv13 means the area can become very busy during the summer season. The parking area near the waterfall is small, and on the most popular days there can be queues and limited parking. Cars sometimes have to wait for a free space, and traffic across the narrow bridge may move slowly when many visitors stop to take photos.

Please be considerate of traffic when stopping and follow the signs in the area.

About 50–60 meters south of the bridge, a historic chaussèe road begins and climbs along the mountainside on the eastern side of the valley. The path leads to a viewpoint above the waterfall and the ruins of the old viewing café, where tourists once stopped for refreshments while admiring the waterfall and the surrounding landscape. Please take care here as well when moving along Rv13.
