About

On the shore of the Hardangerfjord, surrounded by steep mountainsides, waterfalls and vast natural scenery, stands Langhuset Restaurant – a place that is far more than just a restaurant.

The first thing you notice is the building. Built in solid timber with inspiration from Norwegian stave churches and the great longhouses of the Viking age, the construction rises as a landmark by the fjord. Many simply call it "Stavkyrkja" — the stave church — and when you stand beneath the tall timber beams and watch the light fall in from the roof, it is easy to understand why.

Langhuset was built by Leif Einar "Lothepus" Lothe and Randi as a tribute to Norwegian craftsmanship, history and building tradition.

When Langhuset opened in the summer of 2025, Magne and Renate took on the task of carrying the vision forward. Together with their team, they work each day to create a house filled with good flavours, warm meetings and memorable experiences.

Here, travellers, locals, families and adventurers gather for lunch, dinner and good conversation. The menu follows the seasons and draws inspiration from both Hardanger and the wider world, with a focus on good ingredients, generous portions and food made to be shared.

Through the large windows, the view opens onto the Hardangerfjord, while the mountains rise like a natural backdrop around the restaurant. In summer, the outdoor area fills with life and laughter, while the cooler months invite warm meals inside between the timber walls.

Whether you come for a good meal, a drink at the bar, a celebration with family and friends, or simply to experience one of the most distinctive restaurant buildings in the country, you are welcome at Langhuset Restaurant.
