About
Please note – summer 2026: The Western Police District has closed off the innermost area by the Bondhusbreen glacier. A glacial lake has formed up by the glacier and could drain suddenly, sending large volumes of water down the valley. The ban covers the area from Bondhusbreen along the river down to Bondhusvatnet, including the sandbank by the lake, and runs until 1 September 2026. The area is marked with warning signs and tape.
The gravel road up to Bondhusvatnet itself is open as usual — it is the innermost stretch, in towards the glacier, that is closed. Please follow the signage on site and stay outside the closed area. See more information from Kvinnherad Municipality's website.
Bondhusbrea and Bondhusvatnet have been a popular destination since the mid-1800s, and it has not become less popular over the years. Pictures of the photo-friendly glacier water appear more and more frequently on social media, and it is not without reason. The colors of the lake, the unique landscape, and the glacier in the background make Bondhusdalen one of the most beautiful valleys in Norway.
