Unforgettable Experiences with Book Hardanger
After a good night’s sleep at Tyssedal Hotel, Marvin drove through the fjord landscape along the National Tourist Route Hardanger to the village of Eidfjord. The Trolltunga hike is quite demanding, and one of the great things about Eidfjord is that there are so many attractions easily accessible by car. In other words, it’s easy to be enchanted here without expending much energy!
Together with Book Hardanger, he experienced several of Eidfjord’s biggest icons, including:
Hardanger Bridge – one of the longest suspension bridges in the world, with a span longer than even the famous Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco!
Vøringsfossen – perhaps the most popular and spectacular waterfall in all of Norway! Here, you can watch the enormous volumes of water plunge into Måbødalen from spectacular viewpoints near Fossli Hotel, or walk over the waterfall itself on the new pedestrian bridge.
A guided kayak tour with Best Adventures and their experienced guides. As you paddle into the narrow fjord arm “Simadalsfjorden,” you are surrounded by steep mountainsides. If you’re lucky, you might even spot porpoises, seals, and sea eagles!
In the evening, Marvin retreated to Fossli Hotel, where he could fall asleep to the sound of Vøringsfossen. The hotel, dating back to 1891, is just a stone’s throw from the waterfall and has been an inspiration to many – including the famous composer Edvard Grieg, who was a regular guest at the hotel.
From Eidfjord, the journey continued to Brakanes Hotel, which is beautifully situated right by the fjord’s edge in Ulvik. Surrounded by fjords and mountains, Marvin experienced an exhilarating RIB ride with Hardangerfjord Adventure. Entering the 13-kilometer-long and stunningly beautiful fjord arm, Osafjorden, he was taken back in time and gained insight into the lives of the people who once lived along this remote fjord.
The next morning, Marvin was ready for another adventure. Aurora of the Fjords is a scenic fjord cruise, and can also be experienced as a cider tasting journey, or simply a mode of transport. No matter the role, it’s an exceptional way to explore the fjord and discover more of Hardanger. The Fjords would transport Marvin from Ulvik to Lofthus for a hike along the renowned Queen’s Trail. Sailing with Aurora of the Fjords to experience the HM Queen Sonjas hiking trail offered numerous scenic views of Hardanger in one package, all in the same day!
The H.M. Queen Sonja’s Panorama Hiking Trail, known in Norway as “Dronningstien” (Queen’s Path) in Hardanger, has become one of Norway’s most popular hiking trails. It is also one of H.M. Queen Sonja’s favorite hiking trails – given the spectacular view over the Sørfjorden during the entire hike, that is easy to understand!
– The crisp air and abundant sunshine created the perfect summer holiday ambiance, which is often unexpected for a trip to Norway. Luckily this country always delivers delightful surprises.
From the Queen’s Trail, Marvin enjoyed breathtaking views of Sørfjorden, sections of the Folgefonna Glacier, and the stunning surrounding landscape.
After a steep yet picturesque descent, Aurora of the Fjords awaited at the dock, ready to take him back to Ulvik.
The fresh air was a refreshing way to cool down after a long hike. Having time to enjoy the view and fully soak in the experience was equally rewarding.
Marvin continued his journey to Kvam and checked in at Hardangerfjord Hotel in Øystese. From his room, he had a beautiful view of the fjord and Folgefonna Glacier in the distance. From here, Marvin could see his next destination, and was ready to embark on a unique Arctic adventure.
Situated on Norway`s third largest glacier, Folgefonna Husky Camp offers scenic dog sledding, husky hikes, puppy cuddles and unforgettable overnight exercursions. Marvin checked in at the camp and got ready to go dog sledding on the glacier, before enjoying the unique campsite with authentic Sami tents, crackling fires, cozy reindeer skins and appetizing local cuisine.
– Dog sledding on a glacier at the Husky camp felt like an Arctic expedition, offering a surreal experience unlike anything else in Norway. A surreal experience I will cherish for a long time.
Marvin's final hike before the end of his journey was Hanakamb, a trek he had eagerly anticipated for years. Hanakamb is another hidden gem in the Hardanger mountains. From start to finish, the hike offers spectacular views of the fjord, rushing rivers, Folgefonna glacier, lush valleys, and turquoise glacier lakes.
As we wrap up this glimpse into Marvin Kuhr`s enchanting journey through Hardanger, his words resonate deeply:
– It’s the endless opportunities for activities, exploration, and adventure, along with the warm-hearted people and breathtaking landscapes that keeps bringing me back to Hardanger.
